Id-ul-zuha greetings

ITANAGAR, Oct 15: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma has extended his sincere greetings to people of the State in general and to Muslim brethren in particular on the auspicious occasion of Id-ul-Zuha.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki has also extended his best wishes on occasion of Id-ul-Zuha to the citizens.

In his festival message, the Governor expressed his hope that the occasion will further strengthen the rich Islamic tradition of faith, brotherhood, harmony, and devotion amongst the believers and others in the society. The Governor wished that the Id-ul-Zuha this year usher in happiness and prosperity for all.

In a message this evening Tuki wished “Eid Mubarak” to members of the Muslim community on the festive occasion also known as Bakr-id.

“This is a celebration in commemoration of Abraham’s willingness to offer his only son as a sacrifice at God’s command and symbolizes a person’s extreme devotion to the Almighty. I join my Muslim brothers and sisters in offering special prayers for the peace and prosperity of all mankind,” the Chief Minister said in the message.

He expressed belief that the celebration of ardent faith of the believers in the Almighty will also foster communal harmony and peace in the state.

 

2 file nominations for Dambuk by-election

ITANAGAR, Oct 15: Two candidates file nomination for 42nd Dambuk Assembly Constituency by-election  on the last date of nominations to the Returning Officer at Roing on Oct 14. Gum Tayeng, wife of late Jomin Tayeng filed her nomination from Indian National Congress Party while Mulluku Tacho, S/o Late Aloki Tacho  of Sirang Village filed nomination as an independent candidate.

Prof. placed under suspension on molestation charges

ITANAGAR, Oct 15: On the charges of molestation and sexual harassment, the University Authority has placed Prof. M. C. Behera, Director, Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies, Rajiv Gandhi University, under suspension with immediate effect, according to a release issued by RGU Registrar.

During the period of suspension, the headquarters of Prof. Behera should be RGU campus, Rono Hills, Doimukh and he shall not leave the headquarters without prior permission of the competent authority, the  release said.

 

Chingdang festival greetings

ITANAGAR, Oct  15: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma has conveyed warm greetings to the people of the State on the auspicious occasion of Chingdang festival. He has expressed his hope that the festivity will ushers-in peace, good harvest and prosperity for all.

In his festival message, the Governor said that Chingdang is the most popular festival of the Sajolang community.  During the festival, the community not only worships the deities but also the nature for the wellbeing of mankind. Such traditions and practices of the tribal communities have always helped in the continuation of the treasured cultural heritage as well as in the preservation the flora and fauna.  

Joining the Sajolang community on the occasion in offering prayers to Almighty to bless each one with choicest blessings, the Governor has expressed his confidence that along with the festivity, the festival will continue in conserving the green environment.

Chief Minister Nabam Tuki also extended his wishes on joyous occasion of Chindang festival to be celebrated by members of the Sajolong community across the state. “Like all our festivals, Chindang too is an agri-based festival not only to appease the Almighty for a bumper harvest but also to rejoice life and the grandeur of Mother Nature,” he said in a message on eve of the festival.

Tuki expressed belief that celebration of the festival will imbibe a sense of pride in the indigenous communities of the state but also foster unity and bonhomie.

“I join my Sajolong brothers and sisters on this joyous occasion and wish for prosperity and wellbeing of all,” he added.

 

Students demand posting of teachers at Kamki DPGC

ITANAGAR, Oct 15: The Students Union of Donyi Polo Government College, Kamki has demanded the director of higher and technical education to immediately post sufficient teachers in the college.

According to a release by the students union, a representation was submitted to the director of higher and technical education for immediate posting of History, English, Hindi and Political Science Assistant Professors/ Lecturers at DPGC Kamki.

The students’ union team apprised the Director of the problems faced by the students due to shortage of lecturers in the college.

Later, the students’ union team met Joint Director Dr Tejum Padu at his office chamber.

Meanwhile, the Joint Director said that the Director was well aware about the shortage of teachers in the college and will take issue of posting teachers on top priority.

ITANAGAR, Oct 15: Altogether, eight teams have confirmed their participation in first state level Veteran Cup (30 & above) Football Tournament-2013 beginning at RG Stadium, Naharlagun on October 19 to 27.

Seminar on women empowerment

RUKSIN, Oct 15: The three-day conference cum seminar organized by Siang Adi Baptist Association (SABA) for its women wing at Siluk under Mebo sub-division concluded on October 13.

The programme started with lighting of lamp followed by congregational prayer by the believers from different units.

The resource persons in the programme urged the believers to maintain their moral responsibilities to reform the society.

Various women related issues such as women empowerment, service sacrifice and economic empowerment were thoroughly discussed by the trained resource persons in the seminar with theme “Role of women in social transformation.”

Dance and Bible quiz competitions conducted among the groups was the special attractions of the three-day occasion.

 

Demand reiterated

ITANAGAR, Oct 15: The joint coordination committee namely, ‘Double Lane BRTF Road Issue’ formed by the members of Galo Students' Union (GSU) and Volunteer People's Union for Democratic Right (VPUDR) has served a fresh ultimatum to Kamba ADC to refund the 3.5 % of the amount allegedly collected from the compensation given to people affected by two lane BRTF road from Aalo to Tato.

While expressing its strong resentment for not refunding the money even expiry of the 15 days ultimatum served on September 30, the Coordination Committee, in its letter to the ADC threatened to launch phase wise democratic movement, if the allegedly collected money is not refunded to the beneficiaries within a week.

Meanwhile, GSU strongly appealed to the ADC, Kamba to deal with the matter sincerely without any biasness.

 

East Kameng BJP unit gives ultimatum to DC

ITANAGAR, Oct 15: Alleging misappropriation of fund under various schemes in East Kameng district, the district BJP unit has urged upon the DC to take appropriate action against the defaulters within 15 days.

In a letter addressed to the DC, while apprising of seven of its complaint letters given to the DC against various schemes in the district, it warned that it will resort to dharna outside DC’s office if the demand is not fulfilled within 15 days.

KPF clarifies

ITANAGAR, Oct 15: Reacting to a news report wherein Damin Paniasang BADP Road Construction Contractors’ Forum (DPBADPRCF) had said that the PIL filed against BADP funds in respect of CD Block of Damin, Koloriang and Parsi-Parlo led to the non-payment to the contractors of the scheme, the 21st Koloriang Peoples’ Forum (KPF) has clarified that the PIL has no role in the halt of the payment.

In a release, it claimed the High Court had directed and passed order on February 25 this year directing the Chief Secretary to keep in abeyance the release of BADP funds since 2008 against CD Block of Koloriang, Damin and Parsi-Parlo until a report of SIT or a CBI constituted by the state government is submitted but interestingly Court’s verdict was superseded and the BADP payments against CD Block Koloriang, Parsi-Parlo and Sarli were released fully. As such PIL has no role against non-release of BADP payment against Damin-Paniasang road, the release added.

Further asking DPBADPRCF to approach court to seek justice on the non-payment of their work done, it appealed the chief secretary to investigate why the payment of Damin-Paniasang BADP scheme is being halted.

 

Insecticide spray machines distributed

ITANAGAR, Oct 15: East Siang District Agriculture Officer, O Yomso distributed insecticide spray machines to those farmers, who attended the training under National Food Training Mission at Pokdum recently.

Speaking on the occasion, the Gram Chairperson of the Tekang village appreciated the government for providing the machines to the farmers. She urged the Govt. to extend the same kind of help to the farmers of Tekang and Yagrung villages, where agriculture and horticulture are mainstay of the people and practiced in large scale.

 

Aggrieved DRDA staffs demand ban on appointment

ITANAGAR, Oct 15:  In its representation to Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Tanga Byaling, the aggrieved staffs of  District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) under the aegis of All India DRDA Staff Welfare Association Arunachal Pradesh Unit today demanded  ban on appointment of any category posts under the department. It claimed that department had made numerous appointments despite staffs are facing salary crisis over the last eight months. The association also demanded the minister to maintain its 10% per cent ratio of lateral induction for block development officer post. It also claimed that department has violated existing recruitment rule by appointing APO(M).

 

Prohibitory order

ITANAGAR, Oct 15: Bugun Welfare Society in a meeting at Singchung village on October 13 has prohibited hunting of any wild animal, bird and fishing by non-traditional methods within the jurisdiction of Singchung village. Violation of the same will invite penalty, including seizure of the weapons/equipments used for such illegal hunting and fishing, according to a Bugun Welfare Society release.

Millo Tasser, the Divisional Forest Officer, extended his whole hearted supported towards this endeavour, including creating sign boards for the village council in support of this resolution.

Further, Tasser gave a presentation on Community Reserves and Village Forest Reserves and also talked about leading a green life style to minimize damage to our eco system.

Members of the Bugun community agreed to the rough boundary limits of a proposed community reserve that will be adjacent to Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary and Sessa Orchid Sanctuary.

All members, including Naresh Glow, ex-MLA, Dawa Sarai, head gaon burah, Singchung Village Council, Phuntso Phiang, Chaiperson of Singchung Village Management Committee and others including Anchal Samiti Members, teachers and other leaders were supportive of the intent to declaring the area as a community reserve.

The area and land-use will be mapped by Bugun Welfare Society in collaboration with researchers and scientists working in the area. This will be done in consultation with the Bugun tribe, the release added.

 

Final review meeting on ITM held

TAWANG, Oct 15: A final review meeting of the International Tourism  Mart (ITM) and Tawang Festival 2013 was convened at the DC’s conference Hall here   yesterday.

Presiding over the meeting Parliamentary secretary, tourism P D Sona expressed his optimism that since the tourism Minister was personally monitoring the preparations, the arrangements would be satisfactory.  Tawang Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Dev briefed the House about the various sub-committees and their respective roles for the upcoming ITM and Tawang Festival 2013.

The Secretary Tourism Sonam Chombay said that the ITM was an international event and would play a major role n developing the tourism potential of the state and the District.

Mebo RWD subdivision store gutted

PASIGHAT,  Oct 15: A devastating fire gutted down the Mebo RWD subdivision store last midnight. Properties worth Rs one crore including CGI sheets procured with MLALAD of Ralom Borang, Mebo MLA which were stored in the building to be distributed to the beneficiaries were completely destroyed. The  fire also devoured departmental surveying equipments, tools and plants. Cause of the accident is being investigated.

Tuki meets Khurshid, takes up ‘stapled visa’ issue

ITANAGAR, Oct 15: Chief Minister Nabam Tuki called on Union Minister of External Affairs Salman Khurshid late Sunday evening at New Delhi and placed his concerns on the policy of the Chinese Government with regard to Arunachal Pradesh in issuing ‘stapled visas’ to its citizens.

Tuki, who was moved by the denial to two young archers from the state to travel to China to participate in the Youth World Archery Championship at Wuxi for possessing ‘stapled visas’ issued by the Chinese Embassy, urged the Union Minister for concerted efforts to boost confidence building measures through negotiations with Chinese authorities to overcome the consistent policy of issuing stapled visas to citizens of Arunachal Pradesh.

“This incident (of denying travel rights to the two archers) has demoralized not only the two young players, who enjoy top rankings in the country, but also other youths and sports fraternity of the state and region,” Tuki said while lamenting that the incident comes at a time when the State Government is taking several initiatives to promote sports and youth affairs in accordance with the National Sports Policy. Besides, the Chief Minister pointed, citizens of the state willing to travel to China for multifarious purposes like tourism, business conclaves, student interactions and official tours have been denied the opportunity in the past due to the ‘stapled visa’ controversy.

“The democratic fabric of a nation like India, of which Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part, is threatened by such attitude from the neighboring country. The repeated denial of natural rights of Arunachalee citizens reflects the inconsistent position of China with respect to the territorial integrity of the state as an integral part of India. Therefore, it is high time that the Government of India takes up the matter in right earnest with the Chinese Government at appropriate levels for early resolution of the issue of stapled visas,” Tuki observed while strongly objecting to the Chinese position despite repeated assurances in the past for taking note of the issue.

Going through the concerns and observations on the issue submitted by the Chief Minister in written form, the External Affairs Minister assured that it will be taken up very soon with his Chinese counterpart on priority.

Expressing regret, he sympathized with the two young archers, who despite their top rankings and potentials were denied of the opportunity to take part in a world championship.

Khurshid also assured that he will impress upon the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) to take up the matter at the highest level.

 

NEW DELHI: Terming India's relationship with China as "more complex", national security adviser (NSA) Shivshanker Menon on Tuesday said the two countries have managed to maintain the equilibrium needed for peace and stability despite differences.

"The matter of our dealing with China is more complex... There are certainly issues between us, as there will be between two neighbours who are growing and changing so rapidly. We try to maintain the dynamic equilibrium in the relationship needed for peace, stability and predictability. So far, we have both managed to do so successfully," he said.

Addressing the Sardar Patel Memorial lecture, the NSA said as early as 1950, the then home minister Sardar Patel had flagged the issue of improving border management after the Chinese Army entered Tibet.

He said the points raised by Patel in a letter to then Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru were designed to strengthen India. "This indeed is still our agenda. It is precisely these areas that we have made progress in the last decade, more, I dare say than in any single decade before this one," he said.

Menon said Patel died soon after writing the letter and its contents could not be discussed with Nehru. "One of the fascinating 'what if' questions in our history is the course that events would have taken with China if we had acted on Patel's suggestions when they were made," he said.

Referring to the Chinese border, he said the area has been relatively peaceful since 1962 war as "we are careful to maintain equilibrium or prevent the emergence of a significant imbalance and a political context in which neither side finds the costs of changing the status quo attractive".

He pointed that since 1988, the two countries have developed a broader relationship with China being India's largest trading partner in goods. PTI

 

 

SUMA seeks people’s cooperation

ITANAGAR, Oct 15: Reiterating that Govt.’s indifferent attitude to reconsider its demands despite repeated pleas has compelled the union to declare non-co operation movement, Students Union Movement of Arunachal Pradesh (SUMA) has appealed to all indigenous people of the state to extend co-operation to its proposed 24 hr Capital bandh call.

“We have already conducted mass awareness campaign in various affected districts to draw the attention of the Government about the concerns of people of the state on some burning issues, like PRCs to non-APSTs and its future consequences,” SUMA in a release said. The students union cautioned that prolonged negligence by the state government to reconsider the issue will invite wide-spread agitation in the entire state in days to come.

Meanwhile, SUMA informed in the release that all ambulances, police patrol party, press and media will be exempted from purview of the bandh.

 

 

Nobin bags 2 silver in C’wealth Karate Championship in Canada

ITANAGAR, Oct 17: Senior Karate player of the state P Nobin Jomoh won a silver medal each in individual Kumite and Kata events in the Seventh Commonwealth Karate Championship held in Montreal, Canada.

Participating in Individual Kumite in 84 kg plus category, Nobin routed his opponents from Ghana and Botswana in first and second rounds and Australia in the semifinal to enter the final. He lost to his opponent from the host country in the final after giving a tough fight, Nobin told this daily over telephone from Canada today evening.

Later, the Canadian was adjudged overall champion.

Nobin also won a silver medal in Individual Kata.  India bagged three gold, seven silver and six bronze medals in the championship which concluded on Sunday.

The team was led by KAI President R Thiagarajan and General Secretary Bharat Sharma, while Viraf Vatcha and Ambedkar Gupta were the coaches.

DC calls for effective enforcement of NDPS Act -1985

KHONSA, Oct  15: A meeting in connection with menace of opium cultivation with PRI leaders of Tirap district was held at DC’s Conference hall here  today  to address enforcement of NDPS Act- 1985 against the opium cultivators/drug peddlers of Tirap District.

Speaking on the occasion, Tirap DC Kamlesh Joshi said that Lazu and Deomali areas were infested with opium cultivation. He suggested the EAC Lazu to conduct emergency meeting with PRIs leaders of Lazu area to discourage poppy cultivation and to encourage long term cultivation such as large cardamom, green chilly etc. The 20 SHGs of Lazu area were benefited with alternative crops during 2012, but they have failed to follow up inspite of several Govt. instructions. He further added to trace out the exact locations where the poppy opium are being cultivated so that action be initiated against the cultivators as per provisions of NDPS Act - 1985.

Tirap SP Vikranjit Singh said that till now no one came forward directly to complain against the opium and brown sugar peddlers making in road into Tirap District as these days persons between 25-40 years  of age are addicted with opium (Kani) and brown sugar. He urged the Panchayat leaders to extend full support to fight against opium cultivators and drug peddlers as to book them under the provision of law.

H. Matcha, ADC Khonsa urged the departments of agriculture   and horticulture to deployed staffs to train the villagers to grow cash crops to smoothen their livelihood and replace illicit and opium cultivation.

Chawang Lowang, ZPC Tirap assured to extend full co-operation to fight together against Drug peddlers and illicit opium poppy cultivators of Tirap. Meanwhile, ZPMs of Khonsa Block and Dadam Block also spoke on the occasion and extended cooperation with Govt. agencies to fight against the menace of opium poppy cultivation.

NHPC seeking CCI’s intervention  on 3000MW Dibang project

ITANAGAR, Oct 15: NHPC Ltd is seeking intervention of Cabinet Committee on Investment (CCI) on its Rs 16,000 crore 3000MW Dibang Multipurpose Project (DMP) held up due to absence of forest clearance.

The project met with setback when the FAC (Forest Advisory Committee) of Ministry of Environment and Forest (MoEF) in its meeting held on July 2013, recommended the rejection of forest clearance to the project.

A Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Arunachal Pradesh was signed in June 2006 for implementation of Dibang project and public hearings were held in Roing and New Anaya in March this year.

Seeking salvation, NHPC knocked the door of the government for its project caught in the red tape. The CCI headed by Prime Minister of India is a committee for giving fast-track nod to mega projects of investment worth Rs 1000 crore and above.

NHPC submitted a draft note to CCI with proposal to direct MoEF to reconsider the project for accordance of stage-I forest clearance.

Justifying its proposal, NHPC stated that power availability in Northeast will be surplus with the commissioning of Dibang project and that the project will provide much needed flood cushion that will moderate the impact of flood in the region.

“NHPC has mischievously roped in CCI. But it does not mean CCI can bypass the clearance process. It can only ask the MoEF to reconsider NHPC’s proposal,” said an environmental activist, who wished not to be named. According to an estimate, 122 large power projects in the country worth nearly Rs 4.28 lakh crore have sought help of CCI held up in procedural issues like land acquisition, environment and forest clearances.

But not many projects are able to come out of procedural wrangles despite being pushed by CCI. “For example,” says the environmentalist, “Power projects in Arunachal such as Etalin (3,097 MW) and Attunli (680MW) are facing delays in securing clearance from the defence and home ministries despite the CCI’s intervention.”

It’s not only the CCI where NHPC is knocking the door. Minister of State for Power, Jyotiraditya Scindia recently requested the intervention of MoEF in arranging for forest clearance for Dibang project.

 

 

CCLAPF calls on Dev. Commissioner (Fin)

ITANAGAR, Oct 15: In order to discuss about the land allotment cases etc. in the Capital Complex, a team of Capital Complex Land Affected Peoples’ Forum (CCLAPF) led by its Chairman called on the Development Commissioner (Finance), GoAP at his office chamber today.

While wholeheartedly appreciating the initiative of the people-friendly state government for promptly instituting a committee to resolve the contentious land allotment issue in the Capital Complex, the CCLAPF hoped that the committee under the able guidance and chairmanship of the Development Commissioner (Finance), Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh will be able to come out with a recommendation which would be in the best interest of both the state and its citizens, according to a CCLAPF release. The grievances and observations of the Forum on the issue were also submitted to the Development Commissioner (Finance) in the form of representation during the meeting today.

The Forum also categorically requested the Development Commissioner (Finance) to immediately repeal the draconian Order No. DAP/PEN/3/2001/561 Dtd. 17/06/2013 regarding the need for the government employees to obtain NOC from concerned DC and CEO for settling their retirement dues and for promotion in services.

The release claimed that the Development Commissioner (Finance), after a patient hearing, has assured the visiting team to revoke the Order (No. DAP/PEN/3/2001/561 Dtd. 17/06/2013) very soon.

“As regard to the government constituted land committee, he informed that no formal government order has been received by him yet. As soon as he receives the formal government order about the constitution of the above said committee, he stated that he shall accordingly initiate necessary actions / activities of the committee,” the release added.

 

 

Adopt a village: Governor to officials

ITANAGAR, Oct 15: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma, who visited Yingkiong and Tuting in Upper Siang district on Oct 11 last suggested that district heads of department must adopt a village or two in order to ensure that the fruit of development is percolated to every village of the state. In addition to the responsibility as district heads of their respective department, they must to see that projects are implemented, healthcare is taken care and education is provided to every child in their adopted villages.

Stating that youth decides the future of the country and need proper guidance, Governor asked the Police department to engage the youth in socially useful and sports activities. He said that every policeman must act as guide and philosopher of the youth and motivate them so that they grow up to be responsible citizens. With proactive role by the department, present and new generations of Arunachali youth will not face challenges due to alcohol and drug menace.

Governor also called upon the youth to inculcate required knowledge and skills so that they can stand on their own feet. He advised them to look beyond government jobs and prepare themselves accordingly.

Interacting with the villagers of the frontier district, Governor said that they are the sentinels. If they are strong, whole of Arunachal Pradesh and the country is secured. With combined effort of the government and the people, development can reach to every corner.

Reminding the people, including Panchayati Raj functionaries and public leaders that along with rights they also have responsibilities, Governor advised them to change their mind set. It is duty of every citizen to rise above their narrow domestic interests and strive for overall development of the State and country.

Impressed by the unspoiled forest cover of Upper Siang district, Governor said that it is the gift of nature to the people of the district. Development activities, such as building roads, houses etc. must be carried out but at the same time, nature must not be disturbed, he said while reminding them of the recent natural disaster in Uttarakhand.

Local MLA of Yingkiong-Tuting Assembly constituency, Alo Libang and Panchayati Raj functionaries apprised the Governor of problems faced by the people of the district while includes road communication, lack of bridges and financial institutions.

AGSU calls on CM, places demands

AGSU demanded for declaring Jeko Village of Lohit district as Galo Village, immediate functioning of ‘C’ class Police Station at Banggo Village of Paglam circle under Dambuk Sub-Division of Lower Dibang Valley district, establishment of Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Namlang village of Chowkam under Namsai Sub-Division of Lohit district, immediate posting of teachers and granting of financial aid for infrastructures development including construction of school boundary wall at Government Residential M.E School Banggo.

After patient hearing on the demand, the AGSU release claimed, the Chief Minister assured the AGSU to fulfill the demands for functioning of ‘C’ class police Station at Banggo and assured to direct the Home Department for its early functioning. For posting of teachers and granting of financial aid, the chief minister assured to look into the matter seriously.

Further, the chief minister suggested AGSU to pursue the matter for declaration of Jeko village under Lohit district with the Deputy Commissioner Lohit for further action. He also assured the AGSU to seriously look into the matter for establishment of Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Namlang village after discus with local MLA of the area.

In the meeting, the president of AGSU urged the chief minister for infrastructure development of DPGC Kamki, like maintenance of college approach road, installation of high mast tower at College campus, water supply, installation of separate transformer to ease the problem of electricity, allocation of adequate fund for construction of multipurpose college auditorium and library building etc.

 

 

Demand to set up Industrial Centre at Nari-Koyu

RUKSIN, Oct 15: Although there is huge scope for agriculture, horticulture and other allied activities in entire Nari-Koyu constituency including Nari, Seren, Koyu and Kora circles, the farmers are still unable to reap the benefit of the opportunity due to lack of industry in the area.

The greater Nari-Koyu area is blessed with fertile land, available raw materials and man power that are required for setting up industries. But the farmers of the area are incurring heavy losses due to wastage of their produces due to absence of proper marketing network and proper industrial policy by the state government.

The villagers say the establishment of small scale industry at Nari-Seren area has been a long-pending public demand. They also feel that establishment of weaving and craft industry units in the area will help solve the unemployment problem and improve the economic status of the rural people.

Koyu EAC HQ with more than 4000 population is still lagging far behind other areas in development. In fact, no development has been noticed since establishment of the EAC HQ 20 years ago, they alleged.

The PRI leaders of the area led by Nari-Seren ZPM Kenyom Dabii have been constantly pursuing the matter with the Industry department, but no positive step has been taken so far by the authority to fulfill the public demand.

The leader, in a memorandum submitted to Industry, Textile and Handloom and Handicraft Minister Tapang Taloh urged for establishment of a Sericulture farm at Nari and Telam besides a cluster weaving centre. He also demanded the authority for posting of craft superintendent and designer in the industrial unit.

 

 

Rally to mark Global Hand Washing Day

WAKRO, Oct 15: Global Hand Washing Day rally and campaign was flagged off by Niharika Rathore and Kaveri Dixit here today. Hundreds of rural school children participated in the swatchhata rally organized by the Executive Engineer, Namsai division of the Public Health & Water Supply department.

Togelum Chikro, JE, PH&WS, welcomed all present to an active participation while Kaling Pao, consultant (HRD) of Lohit district spoke on the significance of the day. He explained that the Global Hand Washing Day is dedicated to creating awareness on hand washing with soap as a key approach to prevent diseases especially in the rural areas. Dushamso Minin, Consultant (water and sanitation) for the district elaborated on Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan and Nirmal Gram Puruskar. He exhorted community members to construct and use toilets in homes, schools and Anganwadis.

To a loud applause by all participants, Solai Dellang, ASM, Wakro declared saying,” we will all team up to have a clean and green Wakro. We must join hands to keep our area and homes clean.” Niharika Rathore guided students to live healthy and fit lives by staying neat and clean while also caring to keep the surroundings clean. We must keep our homes and toilets clean too, she added saying, toilets being the place used by other members of a family or society, it is our responsibility to flush well after every use and to keep them clean. We must never be responsible for others to get ill and this we can ensure by staying clean and keeping our toilets clean.  We must wash our hands properly with soap every time we use toilets she opined. Jonali Yun, Chairperson of Wakro Anchal Samiti who attended the function as the Chief Guest exhorted all to do away with open defecation practice and appealed all to build and use toilets. Soput Mepong, GB, Wakro and Khetana Mannoi, PGT, Kendriya Vidyalaya, Tezu also attended the function.

 

 

Smart classroom and science laboratories inaugurated

AALO, Oct. 15: The Smart Class and Science Laboratories of four-storied and U-shaped  colossal Saint Xaviers International School Aalo was inaugurated by West Siang Deputy Commissioner M K Sahoo amid applause on Oct 14 last.

It is the first school in Arunachal to have Smart Class in all classrooms with integrated learning solution from the Tata Class Edge and install well equipped physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories for the students right from 6th standard.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC said that the school with such modern technology is always directed towards quality education and inculcating education through such latest technology to children in their formative years will go a long way to fulfill the aspirations of the parents also.

He urged all the school authorities to channelize their energies to earn reputation of being a model school of the state to fulfill the dream of Kito Sora.

Attending the  inaugural function DDSE Tomi Doke disclosed that all private schools of the district are being inspected to get the first hand knowledge about its functioning. He insisted on going with NCERT text books to ensure uniformity and participation of teachers in all Teachers Training conducted from time to time by the department.

Doi Ado said that the school on such line is the need of the hour in the district and appealed the teaching community to give their best to make the school worth its facilities.  

Col. G.S. Chundawat,  Commanding Officer 19 Grenadier appreciated the effort of Kito Sora to open school on such line and assure all help and cooperation from the side of army.

The Chairman of the school, Kito Sora Ex. MLA disclosed that his dream of opening a school of its present kind emanates from lack of education and childhood deprivation of  educational opportunities under compelling circumstances and everything has been put in for  the cause of the school. Though the beginning has been made but 95 per cent of the tasks ahead are left, he said.  

The Principal of the school Advocate J S Rex, Master Tomi Sora and Miss Dhunth Abhirami of the school also dwelt on the functioning of the school and extended their  gratitude to all for cooperation to make the day a successful one. The visiting dignitaries also had the taste of digitized classroom teaching.

At present the school have enrolment of more than 40 students and the school will formally be inaugurated after completing few unaccomplished tasks. DIPRO

 

 

State Level Youth leadership development prog begins

ITANAGAR, Oct 15: The Mega state level youth leadership Development Programme was inaugurated by agriculture, horticulture and Animal Husbandry Minister Setong Sena at VKV Nirjuli campus on Oct 13 last.  The  four days programme with the theme “Vijay Hi Vijay’  is being organised as a part of Swami Vivakananda’s 150th birth anniversary celebration.   Prominent among others present on the occasion were Reverent Swami Chinmayananda, one of the Pioneer of Ramakrishna Mission, who started School and Hospital in Arunachal Pradesh and Reverent Vishweshananda, Secretary RK mission hospital, Itanagar.

400 selected collegian youths covering all the districts of Arunachal Pradesh are participating  in the Mega Maha Shibir “VIJAY HI VIJAY“.

In his inaugural address Sena urged the Arunachalee youths to take maximum benfit from the camp and enhance  their  skill and leadership quality to face the present challenges. He also appealed  youth to take up the Agriculture, Horticulture and Animal Husbandry  relating activities in the state.

Swami Vivekananda is the only Hero, who can provide solution to the challenges  being faced by present vibrant youths, Sena said that the guidance of Swami Vivekananda helped him to reach upto present status of his life.

As the strong  building require strong foundation and good quality materials, similarly, youths can build their character and personality by imbibing positive attitude with qualitative knowledge through such environment, said Swami Chinmayanandaji in his address.  He further said “future of India is in  the hands of youths.

Dr.  Joram Begi, Director Higher  and Technical Education and Prant Pramukh of Vivekananda Kendra highlighted about the Year long programme of 150th Birth anniversaries of Swami Vivekananada and  said that ‘this programme is a part of  Yuva Sakti Ayam’.

The second day of the programme started with Pratasmaran at 5.30 am. This was  followed by Yoga/Pranayama and power point presentation on Tejas.  Later Baudhik session on the topic “Wake up Bharat ! Enlighten the World! !” and other programmes were organised.

 

 

Chera Talo Memorial Volleyball Tournament begins

KOLORIANG, Oct 15: The Chera Talo Memorial Volleyball Tournament in its second year of conception by Chera Welfare Society (CWS) saw an enthusiastic kick-off today at Koloriang General Ground.

Attending the inaugural function, Lok Sabha MP Takam Sanjay while remembering late Chera Talo hoped that the people of Koloriang would remember him with fondness and respect and try to be like the man late Chera Talo was.

Emphasizing on the importance of sports in a person’s life, he said, “Sports not only keep a person healthy but also incorporate a sense of goodwill among players as a person especially in team sports where you play not for the individual but for the team as a whole”.

He requested all the participants to maintain sportsmanship spirit and play with full fairness and enthusiasm while administering the oath to the participants.

Nine teams for women and eight teams for men’s volleyball from in and around Koloriang are participating in this edition of the tournament.

Later, Chairman of Chera Welfare Society, Chera Siro submitted a memorandum to Sanjay for naming the district hospital currently under construction in the name of late Chera Talo.

Proper waste treatment & untapped opportunity

Some 3.5 billion people, half the world's population, lack crucial waste management services, significantly harming environment, health and economies, the United Nations reported, stressing that recycling and proper treatment can be a literal and metaphorical gold mine.

"Open dumping, the most prevalent waste disposal method in many countries, can lead to acute health impacts for those living closest to dumping sites, most often the urban poor," the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) said, calling the statistics "staggering" as it released a new study on the problem that showed that one tonne of recycled electronic waste could yield as much gold as five to 15 tonnes of typical gold ore.

The study - Guidelines for National Waste Management Strategies: Moving from Challenges to Opportunities - released in conjunction with the UN Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) stresses that management is not only a challenge but "a largely untapped opportunity," with treated waste used as a recoverable resource put to profitable use.

Beyond the potential amount of recovered gold from one tonne of electrical and electronic waste (e-waste), it notes that recovered copper, aluminium and rare metals would exceed by many times the levels found in typical ores. Printed circuit boards are "probably the richest ore stream you're ever going to find," it says.

Recycling a tonne of aluminum saves 1.3 tonnes of bauxite residues, 15 cubic metres of cooling water, 0.86 cubic metres of process water and nearly 40 barrels of oil, while preventing the emission of two tonnes of carbon dioxide and 11 kilos of sulphur dioxide.

In 2000 recycling in the European Union generated over 229,200 jobs, which by 2008 had increased to nearly 512,340 - an annual growth rate of over 10.5 percent. The proportion of people employed in waste-related recovery activities in there increased from over 400 persons per million inhabitants in 2000, to over 600 in 2007, an increase of some 45 per cent.
